Looking Back at Season 4 (III) – The Official Stills (Part 3)

As with the previous seasons, I’m looking back at the Official Stills for each episode of Season 4; picking my favorites and writing down some of my thoughts. Generally, Season 4 has been good regarding promo, but it was a bit of a nuisance to compile all the Stills unmarked and in HD quality.

Episode 4×12: Loyalty + Family + Rogue + Hellfire (via KsiteTV)

Episode 4×09: Code + Artemis + Nuclear + N3mesis (Still Photographer: Mark Hill)
For this episode, we got 10 “real” Official Stills on the CBS press site; all of them featuring the main mission team in the control room of a power plant. Interestingly, Getty Images has actually 11 (but watermarked) Stills taken by Still Photographer Mark Hill while SpoilerTV released 5 and KsiteTV released 10.

Episode 4×09: Code + Artemis + Nuclear + N3mesis (via Mark Hill/Getty Images)

MY FAVORITE: The one with MacGyver. It’s an important scene for character development.

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: While this episode has a big impact on MacGyver and his mental health; it’s actually a Riley background story episode. Yet, Riley didn’t get her own Still. She’s just part of the group staring at a computer screen.

 

Episode 4×10: Tesla + Bell + Edison + Mac (Mark Hill)
For Episode 4×10, we got 9 Stills on the press site; all of them featuring the main mission. Only 4 watermarked Stills are available via Getty Images while 5 are on SpoilerTV. You can find them all on KsiteTV.

MY FAVORITE: The one with MacGyver and Tesla. Sadly, also the only one that has Mac in it.

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: This is my favorite episode of the season and there’s only one Still of MacGyver (that’s not even up on Getty Images). And no other Still of the guest stars? It’s the craziest episode so far in the Reboot and they didn’t do anything with it promo-wise. I guess they didn’t want to spoiler too much with the Stills, but it was already stated in the press release that it will be a “dreamland” episode and that Mac will meet his mother.

 

Episode 4×11: Psy-Op + Cell + Merchant + Birds (Erika Doss)
Episode 4×11 delivered 12 Official Stills; all of them featuring our lead hero and the Merchant in a fake Chinese prison. 6 watermarked Stills are up on Getty Images; with What2Vue having 7 and KsiteTV having all of them in unmarked glory.

Episode 4×11: Psy-Op + Cell + Merchant + Birds (via CBS)

MY FAVORITE: Who doesn’t like a dirtied up Mac sitting in a prison cell? Who cares if it’s fake, right?

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: Everything is so dark and dirty and depressing in here… also, all the Stills are in the same setting, so some fans might find this a bit boring.

 

Episode 4×12: Loyalty + Family + Rogue + Hellfire (Mark Hill)
We got 11 Official Stills for this episode. About half of them feature Mac on a run and meeting Auntie Gwen and her friends in the woods. The others have Mac and Riley with Shiva at another Codex hideout with Gwen and the Codex head of security. Getty Images has 8 Stills up, while SpoilerTV has 6 of them and KsiteTV has 10.

Episode 4×13: Save + The + Dam + World (via Jeri Ryan News)

MY FAVORITE: MacRiley and Auntie.

BONUS STILL: MacGyver in the woods. It’s seems like such a simple photo, but it isn’t. Also, I like the colors.

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: Nothing to be disappointed about. There’s MacRiley and the guest stars and some Stills taken while filming an important scene.

 

Episode 4×13: Save + The + Dam + World (Nathan Bolster)
We got a set of whopping 34 Stills in total for this episode. Fittingly, 13 of them are “real” Stills while the rest consists of screenshots. The “real” Stills have the mission team out in the woods. Getty Images has 9 Stills up, while SpoilerTV has only 5 of them. Thankfully, KsiteTV saves the day again by having them all up on their site.

Episode 4×13: Save + The + Dam + World (by Nathan Bolster/CBS)

MY FAVORITE: Desi’s expression is exactly how I feel about the writers deconstructing the character of Desi in Season 4 (from kick-ass Phoenix agent to moody ex-girlfriend-now-again-girlfriend who complains about everything and doesn’t trust MacGyver).

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: Stills taken out there in the woods are always nice, so nothing to complain about the “real” Stills. It’s also nice to provide Stills with the guest stars. I’m not too fond of adding too many screenshots of the same scene, though. The lighting isn’t getting any better just because you add five screenshots instead of one or two.

Episode 4×05: Soccer + Desi + Merchant + Titan (Still Photographer: Mark Hill)
For this episode, we got 14 “real” Official Stills on the CBS press site; all of them featuring the main mission during the soccer game. Later, they added 6 screenshots featuring scenes inside the Phoenix Foundation (War Room, lab, interrogation room).

Getty Images has 10 (but watermarked) Stills taken by Still Photographer Mark Hill while SpoilerTV released 8. Service Note: If you want them for your collection, KsiteTV is the only site that has all 20 Stills (including the screenshots) available with no watermarks.

Episode 4×05: Soccer + Desi + Merchant + Titan (via SpoilerTV)

MY FAVORITE: The one with Mac and Bozer. It’s been a while since we’ve seen the two working together in a field mission. Thinking about it, this might actually be the only “real” Official Still of Season 4 that features both of them.

BONUS STILL: MacGyver undercover as a paparazzo? I totally believe it. Give Lucas a movie role as photographer, paparazzo or photo journalist, please.

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: Pretty people in front of rich colors, so nothing major to complain about. A BtS group photo of the main mission cast would have been nice, though. Or one of the casino scene that was featured in the previews.

 

Episode 4×06: Right + Wrong + Both + Neither (Jace Downs)
For Episode 4×06, we got 13 Stills on the press site; all of them featuring the main mission. They later added 4 screenshots of Matty being interrogated. 8 watermarked Stills are available via Getty Images while 5 are on What2Vue.

MY FAVORITE: The one person on the right is very happy. The one on the left isn’t.

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: Nothing to complain here since Stills during the filming of the field missions are usually more interesting than ones from War Rooms and Interrogation Rooms.

 

Episode 4×07: Mac + Desi + Riley + Aubrey (Mark Hill)
Episode 4×07 delivered 13 Official Stills; all of them featuring our heroes in the episode title – although one of them is actually a BtS photo of Lucas Till with the guest stars. Collecting them was a bit of a hassle: 10 of them are up on Getty Images; with KsiteTV having 8 unmarked Stills and SpoilerTV having 5. To get your hands on all of them, you had to also check the Twitter and Instagram feeds of the official MacGyverCBS accounts.

Episode 4×07: Mac + Desi + Riley + Aubrey (via KsiteTV)

MY FAVORITE: Pretty people having a nice time for once.

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: Riley and Aubrey have pivotal roles in this episode, yet Riley is only in one Still from behind with Aubrey already pushed out of focus; sealing his characters fate. Also, no Still for the MacRiley fans.

 

Episode 4×08: Father + Son + Father + Matriarch (Nathan Bolster)
We got 16 Stills for this episode. Half of them feature Mac, James and Mason traipsing through the woods while the other half have the trio together with guest star Jeri Ryan within one of the hideouts for Codex. Getty Images has 15 Stills up, while SpoilerTV has 11 of them. Thankfully, KsiteTV has all 16. Later, CBS added 2 screenshots of Matty in the War Room, once alone and once with Team Phoenix.

Episode 4×08: Father + Son + Father + Matriarch (via KsiteTV)

MY FAVORITE: A wild Mac appears in the woods. I really like the lights and the coloring.

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: Nothing to be disappointed about. I do wonder though if Meredith Eaton’s agent calls CBS every time after new Stills have been released since they keep adding screenshots of scenes with Matty as an afterthought. In fact, both Bozer and Matty barely got any Stills this season so I’m already curious about Season 5 and if that’s going to change.

Looking Back at Season 4 (I) – The Official Stills (Part 1)

Promo-wise, Season 4 was very good to MacGyver fans. Besides interviews and featurettes for the premiere, we got all the episode titles in advance and a new photoshoot in the middle of the season. Also, there were more Official Stills than for previous seasons and a preview plus several Sneak Peeks for every episode.

Episode 4×01: Fire + Ashes + Legacy = Phoenix (via SpoilerTV)

As with the previous seasons, I’m looking back at the Official Stills for each episode of Season 4; picking my favorites and writing down some of my thoughts. (Because I just can’t keep quiet, as you all know by now.)

 

Episode 4×01: Fire + Ashes + Legacy = Phoenix (Still Photographer: Mark Hill)
For the Premiere of Season 4, we got 26 Official Stills on the press site. A lot of them were actually screenshots. Getty Images has 8 (but watermarked) Stills taken by Still Photographer Mark Hill while What2Vue released 20.

Episode 4×01: Fire + Ashes + Legacy = Phoenix (Mark Hill/CBS via Getty Images)

MY FAVORITE: The one with Mac and Desi. There’s an urgency in Mac handling the shovel, while Desi seems unsure but wanting to help.

BONUS STILL: The one with Mac and Russ on top of the post was the first Official Still we got for Season 4. Part of our introduction into the new season we waited so long for.

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: A few more Stills instead of screenshots for the Season Premiere would have been nice, but we got like 6 Stills for the Season 3 Premiere back then, so no reason to keep complaining.

 

Episode 4×02: Red Cell + Quantum + Cold + Committed (Guy D’Alema/Mark Hill)
It’s rather unusual to have 2 Still Photographers on set, but this was the first episode they filmed for Season 4, so they probably wanted to catch the excitement during the first days of filming.

For Episode 4×02, we got 15 Stills on the press site. 14 are available via Getty Images while 11 are on What2Vue. Interestingly, they later added 3 screenshots of Meredith Eaton as Matty.

MY FAVORITE: It’s art, no? Also, the only Still not available on Getty Images, probably because it was used for a First Look preview in the TV Guide magazine.

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: Pretty looking people in various locations. Nothing to complain here.

 

Episode 4×03: Kid + Plane + Cable + Truck (Mark Hill)
The third episode only delivered 9 Official Stills (which is still more than we got on average for previous seasons). SpoilerTV granted us 8 unmarked Stills. Surprisingly, none of them are available on Getty Images.

MY FAVORITE: Mac in a plane. We all know how he feels about heights, right?

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: The young guest star has a pivotal role on the episode. He would have deserved to be in one of the Stills without having his face half-hidden behind Desi.

 

Episode 4×04: Windmill + Acetone + Celluloid + Firing Pin (Mark Hill)
We got 12 Stills for this episode. Most of them feature Mac and/or Riley on the mission in Germany, with Desi joining them in 2 of the Stills. Getty Images has 7 Stills up, while What2Vue has 6 of them. Interestingly, KsiteTV has 19 since they added the photos and screenshots posted on the official social media accounts the day the episode aired.

MY FAVORITE: MacGyverisms are hard work.

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: So much MacRiley. Not disappointing at all.
