Looking Back at Season 2 (IV) – The Official Stills (Part 2)

As with Season 1, I’m looking back at the Official Stills for each Episode of Season 2; picking my favorites and writing down some of my thoughts. (Because I just can’t keep quiet, as you all know by now.)

If you missed Part 1 (Episodes 2×01 to 2×05), you can find the post here.

Episode 2×06: Jet Engine + Pickup Truck (no Still Photographer listed)
For this episode, there was only a single Official Still on the Press Release. That’s not how successful promo works?

Episode 2×06: Jet Engine + Pickup Truck (via SpoilerTV)

MY FAVORITE: Well. Not much to choose from, huh?

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: Well. Don’t need to say much here. At least they chose one of the main mission with all the field agents present.

Episode 2xo7: Duct Tape + Jack (Still Photographer: Jace Downs)
For the seventh episode of Season 2, we got 7 Stills via SpoilerTV. One of them features the main mission while all the others feature the same scene inside Jack’s appartment.

Episode 2×07: Duct Tape + Jack (via SpoilerTV)

MY FAVORITE: MacGyver consoling Jack after he realizes something with a lot of emotional value got robbed.

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: Nothing to be disappointed about.

NOW THAT’S FUNNY: In one of the Stills, you can see Cornell Willis (Second Second Assistant Director) giving directions. Looks like someone should have used his photoshopping skills before releasing that photo. If you haven’t seen the episode, you have to assume there’s a bad guy hiding…

Episode 2×07: Duct Tape + Jack (via SpoilerTV)

Episode 2xo8: Packing Peanuts + Fire (no Still Photographer listed yet)
For Episode 2×08, SpoilerTV delivered 5 Official Stills. Two feature the same scene with Jack and the bad guy. One features Leanna, one Bozer and Leanna and another one Riley and Elwood.

Episode 2×08: Packing Peanuts + Fire (via SpoilerTV)

MY FAVORITE: Elwood and Riley sitting at the table. Riley looks tense and uncomfortable and you can only guess how the first get-together with her father after years of not seeing him will turn out.

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: I think it’s always weird when the character that lends the show its title isn’t to be seen in any of the Official Stills.

Episode 2xo9: CD-Rom + Hoagie Foil (no Still Photographer needed)
The only Episode of Season 2 that provided not a single Still. What a shame.

BtS picture of Episode 2×09: CD-Rom + Hoagie Foil (via Bobby Roth)

MY FAVORITE: Harhar. Very funny. Guess I’ll provide one of my favorite BtS pictures instead. So here’s George Eads and Lucas Till with Director Bobby Roth.

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: I’m pretty sure providing some Official Stills after editing is finished is not that much work. At least not as much as putting together a preview or Sneak Peeks. But what do I know, I’m not in the TV business, after all.

Episode 2×10: War Room + Ship (Still Photographer: Kim Simms)
Episode 2×10 brought 8 Official Stills via SpoilerTV. And after realizing they had no Stills at all, they brought in a new Still Photographer.

Episode 2×10: War Room + Ship (via SpoilerTV)

MY FAVORITE: Mac and Jack talking outside of Jack’s quarters.

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: The episode has a more unique storyline than others, so it would have been nice to see a Still about the main storyline with Mac and Zoe and not Stills about the book-endings of the Episode.

(More coming soon.)

MacGyver Reboot Update #55

It’s Season Finale Friday! Fans don’t have to be sad, though: The show will come back for a third season!

Episode 2×23: MacGyver + MacGyver (Official Still via SpoilerTV)

(Spoiler Alert: You will get spoilered about Mac’s father and about storylines in Seasons 2 and 3 by reading this post and its comments or by clicking on the links provided!)

What’s been happening lately?
Main production wrapped on March 24, cast and crew celebrating a small Wrap Party in Atlanta the next day. There was another wrap party in LA on April 21.

Executive Producer Peter Lenkov took the opportunity to get the cast to sign some hats for his son’s project “Wyatt’s Garage“.  The main cast signed a hat that was auctioned off for a good cause last week (the auction closed at 750 US Dollars). Another hat signed by Lucas Till was auctioned off this week, closing at 335 US Dollars.

Some of the LA-based  guest-stars had attended the Wrap Party in LA as well. Besides David Dastmalchian (Murdoc), Lance Gross (Billy Colton), Sheryl Lee Ralph (Mama Colton) or Michael Des Barres (Helman), Diogo Morgado (Mac’s friend Carlos from Episode 2×21) was part of the festivities.

The cast continued to post some BtS photos every now and then, but it got awfully quiet before Season Finale day. Both Justin Hires and Meredith Eaton posted some nice pictures of themselves with the main cast.

Stand-Ins for Season 2 (via Kevin Marshall Pinkney)

While we got some BtS photos of the Extras and guest-stars for Episode 2×22 (UFO + Area 51) last week (e.g. via Christopher Frontiero), there weren’t many yet for today. Kevin Marshall Pinkney, Stand-In for Justin Hires, posted a BtS photo of the Stand-Ins of Season 2. Stuntman Eric Van Arsdale posted a BtS video while filming the hangar-scene in Episode 2×02 (Muscle Car + Paper Clips). Also, we got a look at the Script Title Page of the Unaired Pilot we shouldn’t talk about.

Season 2 Ratings
As expected, there has been a slow, but steady loss of audience numbers nearing Summer. To freshen up your memory: Episode 2×20 (Skyscraper – Power) had an audience of 6.38 million live viewers (with a 0.8 in the important demo-group) while Episode 2×21 (Wind + Water) managed 6.27 million live viewers (also with a 0.8 rating in demo).

Episode 2×22: UFO + Area 51 (via SpoilerTV)

Last week’s Episode 2×22 (UFO + Area 51) pulled in 6.26 million live viewers, but lost in the important demo-rating and only got all-time-low of 0.7. Hopefully, it gets better ratings in tonight’s Season 2 Finale.

Looking at the 22 episodes aired so far, Season 2 had an average demo-rating of 0.84 with 6.90 million live-viewers per episode. Compared to the Season 2 Premiere with 6.69 million live-viewers (and a demo of 0.8), the show didn’t lose many viewers over the season. It had pretty good ratings around mid-season, Episode 2×13 (CO2 Sensor + Tree Branch) with Ashley Tisdale reaching 8.14 million live-viewers (with a demo of 1).

Official Stills, Press Releases and other Promo
At the end of Episode 2×21 (Wind + Water), Lucas Till took part of a short PSA in the “CBS cares” series; informing about Hurricane Relief for Puerto Rico. He did another piece on Lupus, which might air sometime this month since May is “Lupus Awareness Month”.

BtS photo of Episode 2×22: UFO + Area 51 (via Tristin Mays)

Only a few hours before the premiere of Episode 2×22 last week, SpoilerTV added more Stills and one Sneak Peek. There were a few exclusive storyline insights and an exclusive First Look of Tate Donovan as Oversight via TVLine as well, but I felt a bit annoyed that CBS has been so late with regular promo material for the last five or six episodes.

For today, they were a day early; releasing 3 Sneak Peeks. While one featured Riley’s father Elwood meeting her new not-Boyfriend, the other 2 were scenes with Mac and his dad; therefore revealing already who MacGyver Senior is. Entertainment Tonight shared another exclusive Sneak Peek, also with Mac and his father. While it’s not so surprising to find out who Mac’s dad is after reading the Press Release, I’m still a bit surprised that they actually chose to reveal the big plot twist they have been building up over the whole season so many hours in advance.

BtS photo of Episode 2×23: MacGyver + MacGyver (via Meredith Eaton)

Matt Carter published an interview with Meredith Eaton on May 3rd; asking her about the Season 2 Finale and her character Matty. She revealed that the actors aren’t privy to the process of writing, so she was playing a character with secrets without really knowing what the secret actually was. She also stated that last week’s confrontation scene with Jack (2×22: UFO + Area 51) was one of her favorite scenes to film so far.

Technical Advisor Rhett Allain published an article about the MacGyverism Mac had used for celestial navigation last week.

Last year, the show got its one and only Primetime Emmy Nomination for Stunts (Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Drama Series, Limited Series or Movie). Despite not being invited to be back on Season 3, Stunt Coordinator Jeff Wolfe handed in another Stunt Reel for the Emmy Awards. Let’s hope it scores another nomination – or even better – the win!

Cast and Character News
The Reboot has been renewed for a 3rd Season. We should get more information shortly before the CBS Upfronts on May 16. For now, I’m assuming it will be a direct Full Season Order of 22 episodes again, with a Premiere date in September, airing on Fridays 8pm. It’s also safe to assume that the entire main cast will be back.

I speculated in my last blog post that some guests attending the LA Wrap Party could hint at them being back next Season. At least for Diogo Morgado, that seemed to ring true – for maybe half a day: A Portuguese news outlet that recently did an interview with Diogo “revealed” on May 2nd that he will come back as a recurring character next season. The article created quite a hubbubb among his fans and the fansites; sharing the news on Instagram and Twitter. Hours later, Diogo denied the statement, saying that there is a misquote in said interwiew and that nothing has been decided yet.

BtS photo of Episode 2×23: MacGyver + MacGyver (via Justin Hires)

Well, nothing has been decided yet doesn’t mean explicitly no and it seems interesting that the interviewer added that filming will begin in July. Either someone spilled the beans too early, or there have been discussions. Another appearance by Carlos wouldn’t seem that far-fetched, anyway.

The Press Release for tonight’s Season Finale (2×23: MacGyver + MacGyver) confirmed that Billy Baldwin (Elwood), Lance Gross (Billy Colton) and Reign Edwards (Leanna) are back. Both Lance and Reign are attached to shows and projects already, but that shouldn’t stop them from making an appearance next season; along with the other Colton family members. David Dastmalchian’s Murdoc is a likely bet and Michael Des Barres and his fans have been very vocal about wanting to see him back on the show.

Rebooted Murdoc and Original Murdoc at the LA Wrap Party (via Michael Des Barres)

Kate Bond’s character Jill is listed as recurring cast for tonight’s episode, which means she will probably be the first recurring character for the show. Depending how today’s Season Finale ends and how much drama is still unresolved, it’s also very likely that Oversight (played by Tate Donovan) will return as a recurring character.

A year ago (April 14, 2017), Lucas Till made following statement in an interview with Yahoo! for the Season 1 Finale:

Till definitely has hopes for next season — although, since he isn’t a writer, he doesn’t have much say in it. “More women would be good. The guy had a new girl every episode and it was definitely a talking point when my reps were talking to me about why I should do this.”

Hm. That didn’t really happen, did it? There were girls, but they either died (Zoe in 2×10), were exes that had broken his heart (Allie in 2×13) or were fake-wives that already belonged to someone else (Leanna in 2×16). Wonder what will be in store for next season?

In fact, the writers do have a “just awesome” plan for him, but it’s too early to spill the beans on anything just yet. “I think the show is just going to continue to be really, really fun. So, I’m excited!”

I wonder if he meant tonight’s plot twist or just the fact that Mac is finally meeting his father today. I hope we get a new Interview with Lucas soon; e.g. a short overview of this season and what he’s expecting for the next one.

MacGyver in Austria
The rerun of Season 1 does still pretty well in Austria. The live-audience numbers are usually in the range of 50-60’000 viewers, but fell to a meager 26’000 last Saturday. This might have been due to the warm weekend weather or the airing of Formula 1 before.

There’s finally a date for the DVD-Release for Season 1 in Germany: July 6. There’s no further infos on the extras yet, but of course I hope there will be the same Extras on it as for the UK and the French version.

MacGyver Reboot Update #54

Only 2 episodes left – but at least we know there will be more episodes in the Fall, because the show got renewed for a 3rd Season!

Exclusive Sneak Peek of Episode 2×23: MacGyver + MacGyver (via TVLine)

(Spoiler Alert: You will get spoilered about characters and storylines in Seasons 2 and 3 by reading this post and its comments or by clicking on the links provided!)

What’s happening at the moment?
Main production wrapped on March 24, cast and crew celebrating a small Wrap Party in Atlanta for the Atlanta-based crew the next day. Of the main cast, apparently only Lucas Till and Justin Hires attended the festivities, so there were not that many pictures or videos.

There was another wrap party in LA on April 21. Together with some cast and crew members of Hawaii Five-0, Executive Producer Peter Lenkov took his people bowling – to the same location as last year. There was also cake. Lenkov posted several pictures of the event; and took the opportunity to promote the auction of his son’s project “Wyatt’s Garage”.  The main cast signed a hat that was auctioned off for a good cause (the auction closed at 750 US Dollars).

LA S2 Wrap Party (via Michael Des Barres)

While Justin Hires had uploaded some videos on his YouTube account, Meredith Eaton shared photos of her with Tristin Mays and with her favorite Costume Departement person.

Same as last year, George Eads was not at the LA Wrap Party, but signed the charity-hat on another day so all signatures are there. To make up for George’s absence, some of the LA-based  guest-stars attended the event; e.g. David Dastmalchian, Diogo Morgado (Mac’s friend Carlos from last week’s Episode 2×21), half of the Colton family (Lance Gross and Sheryl Lee Ralph) or Michael Des Barres. Maybe a hint that we will see them again next Season?

Lucas Till had come back from his “Social Media Hiatus” for the premiere of Episode 2×20 (Skyscraper – Power) and posted several more BtS pictures for Episode 2×21 (Wind + Water) last week. It’s nice to see so many writers and cast members come online last Friday after being more or less absent since production wrapped.

Todd Jenkins on set of Episode 2×21: Wind + Water (via Action Talent Agency)

We also got some nice BtS photos of the Extras and guest-stars; e.g. via Todd Jenkins or Isabel De La Cruz for Episode 2×21 or via Christopher Frontiero for tonight’s Episode 2×22 (UFO + Area 51). As Todd Jenkins revealed, his wife had created a MacGyver-Cake for the group of friends that watched the premiere of Episode 2×21 with them. Ava Davila (who played Carlo’s daughter in 2×21) has posted several BtS photos, all pictures of her posing with each main cast member and also with her “fake” dad. The crew provided some new BtS pictures as well; e.g. of the pole-crashed car or of the rusted truck before it was rusty.

Season 3 News
You might have already heard that the wait for the official confirmation is over: The Reboot has been renewed for a 3rd Season! Executive Producer Peter Lenkov already gave us a teaser of the new logo after the news hit on April 18 – only to post another, refined version the next day.

Second Season 3 Logo teaser via Peter Lenkov

There’s no further information yet, but I’m assuming it will be a direct Full Season Order of 22 episodes, with a Premiere date in September like last year.

We might have to wait for the definite CBS timetable until the Upfronts on May 16. But since both Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods have been renewed as well, there is a good chance that the “Trifecta” will stay untouched.

Official Stills, Press Releases and other Promo
At the end of last week’s Episode 2×21 (Wind + Water), Lucas Till took part of a short PSA in the “CBS cares” series; informing about the still devastating situation in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria and where you can donate money for Hurricane Relief. (He did another piece on Lupus, which might air next week since May is “Lupus Awareness Month”.)

On April 10, we got the Press Release for Episode 2×22 (UFO + Area 51). There was only one Official Still when I was typing up the blog post this afternoon and not much BtS material for this episode.  Only a few hours ago, SpoilerTV added 3 more Stills, all of them featuring Mac and Jack with racing cars and their pilot. According to comments by Greg Perrow, the NASCAR scene (filmed at the Atlanta Motor Speedway) might be the Opening Gambit for tonight. It seems to be a nod to the Original Show; specifically Episode 4×05 (Collision Course, 1988), so many fans have been interested and asking questions since the first BtS pictures and videos popped up.

Episode 2×22: UFO + Area 51 (Official Still via SpoilerTV)

There were a few more exclusive storyline insights via TV Line, though: Mac and Riley get the chance to examine a mysterious object that crash-landed in the Nevada desert, while Jack – a “believer” – does not. According to this article, it’s possible that there’s a mini-cliffhanger at the end of the episode.

The Season 2 Finale titled “MacGyver + MacGyver” airs next Friday, on May 4. We already got a bunch of more Stills by April 23, but alas: There was a Jeep, but no sign of MacGyver Senior. It was TV Line that granted us an exclusive First Look of Tate Donovan as Oversight. Yes, I sure can see the resemblance.

The recent pictures shared by Meredith Eaton also seem to be part of the Season Finale; two of them featuring Mac and Matty having a “Dinner Date”.

Episode 2×21: Wind + Water (Official Still via SpoilerTV)

Season 2 Ratings
To freshen up your memory: Episode 2×19 (Benjamin Franklin + Grey Duffle) had managed 6.68 million live viewers with a 0.8 demo-rating while Episode 2×20 (Skyscraper – Power) had an audience of 6.38 million live viewers (also with a demo of 0.8). As expected, there has been a steady loss of audience numbers nearing Summer, and that happened again last week: For Episode 2×21 (Wind + Water), about 6.27 million live viewers tuned in (with the usual 0.8 rating in demo).

So far, Season 2 had an average demo-rating of 0.85 with 6.93 million live-viewers per episode. While the audience numbers are falling slightly with every episode, the fanbase isn’t. Last week’s episode brought many people forth – even first-time viewers – who complimened the show on social media, applauding the episode being set in a country that still needs help, despite its situation being more or less “invisible” and therefore unknown to the rest of the world.

Cast and Character News: Is that a Plot Twist I see?
Because there were no news about the Season Finale when writing Update 52, I had combed through the Casting Calls again to see if I had maybe missed the casting for Stand-Ins or Photo Doubles for MacGyver senior. A Call for a Stand-In hinted at Joshua Childs having a part. He would have certainly fit age-wise, but as it turned out by April 10, he’s part of tonight’s Episode 2×22 as a member of the NASCAR pit crew.

The Press Release for next week’s Season Finale (2×23: MacGyver + MacGyver) confirmed that Billy Baldwin (Elwood), Lance Gross (Billy Colton) and Reign Edwards (Leanna) will be back. That’s a lot of potential for some relationship drama and for a change in the team dynamics and maybe even new set locations (e.g. Bozer and Leanna breaking up or Riley moving in with Billy). Kate Bond’s character Jill is listed as recurring cast, which means she will probably be the first recurring character for Season 3.

LA S2 Wrap Party (via Diogo Morgado)

Although the episode title indicates that MacGyver Senior will be in the episode, there’s no one listed as Mac’s dad – at least not at first glance. So far, the best guess is still that Mac’s father is Oversight, played by Tate Donovan – especially since he’s mentioned as the “special” guest-star who has a history with Matty.

If this not-so-surprising Plot Twist turns out to be true, he hopefully returns as a recurring character next Season as well. After all that build-up with the mystery about Mac’s “missing” dad, it would be a weird choice to not explore the possible fall-out of Mac getting to know the truth while we have so much backstory between Riley and her parents.

BtS of Episode 2×22: UFO + Area 51 (via Chris Frontiero)

MacGyver in Austria
The Reboot continues to do well in Austria. The live-audience numbers have fallen a bit now that the weather gets warmer, but continue to be in the range of 50-60’000 viewers.

The German FreeTV premiere of Episode 1×16 (Hook) will air on Sunday. Curiously, it looks like they will skip Episode 1×19 (Compass) again on their 2nd airing cycle. Some episodes have been cut to fit the FSK12 rating for afternoons (similar to a PG-13-rating in the US), so that shouldn’t be a problem. It’s possible they want to premiere the Episode on primetime, ahead of Season 2.

While the DVD-release for France is set for May 2nd and French Channel M6 just aired Episodes 2×13 and 2×14 tonight, there’s still no news about the DVD-release for Season 1 in Germany or the German-speaking premiere of Season 2.

MacGyver Reboot Update #53

Filming of Season 2 has officially wrapped. Including the Season 2 Finale on May 4, there’s 3 episodes left to enjoy – but there will be more this year, because the show got renewed for a 3rd Season!

Episode 2×23: MacGyver + MacGyver (via SpoilerTV)

(Spoiler Alert: You will get spoilered about characters and storylines in Seasons 2 and 3 by reading this post and its comments or by clicking on the links provided!)

What’s happening at the moment?
Despite wrapping up main production on March 24 and celebrating a small Wrap Party in Atlanta, some crew members and Stand-Ins continued filming additional scenes and inserts until the end of March.

Things got pretty quiet after that – at least until the “big news” hit on Wednesday. Some of the crew members have started working on other projects, others are enjoying a holiday. Besides Justin Hires, the main cast has more or less disappeared as well and only “pops” up every now and then.

George Eads posted two new photos on Instagram yesterday while Lucas has appeared on one or two Instagram Live Stories posted by friends. He came back from his “Social Media Hiatus” specifically for the premiere of last week’s episode 2×20 (Skyscraper – Power), posting a new BtS photo of the elevator stunt with Elisha Henig.

BtS of Episode 2×20: Skyscraper – Power (via Lucas Till)

In the photo, you can recognize Prop Master Kate Guanci adjusting the “MacGyvered” lights. As Stunt Woman Juliana Potter revealed, it was her doubling Elisha in this scene, providing a nice picture of them looking like twins.

While it’s a wrap on the filming process, there’s of course still post-production stuff to do – ADR, editing, composing music and more. Also, it’s still not a wrap on the BtS pictures: Every time an episode airs, some of the guest-stars provide new photos of the filming process; often of some earlier episodes as well. Brooklyn Davis had let the crew film inside her house for Episode 2×19 (Benjamin Franklin + Duffle Bag). In her Instagram post, you can see how they hid the fake money behind the (fake) walls.

BtS photo of Episode 2×21: Wind + Water (via Mark Manos)

Since I’ve been on holiday for several weeks, I often stumble over pictures posted a while ago; e.g. of Mark Manos who directed today’s episode 2×21 (Wind + Water). Sometimes, it’s also pictures of the Unaired Pilot that shall not be talked about.

Season 3 News
Last year, there was a “mass-announcement” for the CBS renewals at the end of March, so of course fans were getting impatient to know the fate of their favorite shows. On Wednesday, the wait was finally over: The Reboot has been officially renewed for a 3rd Season!

So far, we have to wait for the definite CBS timetable until the Upfronts on May 16. But since both Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods have been renewed as well, there is a good chance that the “Trifecta” will stay untouched. Several websites are speculating about the possibility to move MacGyver to Mondays, especially since the fate of the struggling Monday comedy lineup is still unclear and Scorpion (that also airs on Monday) hasn’t been renewed yet.

First Season 3 Logo teaser via Peter Lenkov

There’s no information about the number of episodes, but I’m assuming it will be a direct Full Season Order of 22 episodes, with a Premiere date in September like last year.

Second Season 3 Logo teaser via Peter Lenkov

Cast, crew and writers were very happy to announce and share the news. David Dastmalchian posted a new BtS photo of him with Lucas Till in Episode 2×15 (Murdoc + Handcuffs); promising to be back next season to finally take out the “blond boyscout” once and for all. Executive Producer Peter Lenkov already gave us a teaser of the new logo after the news hit – only to post another, refined version the next day. Looks like they changed their mind over night – similarly to Sesaon 2 when also two different versions of the logo floated around in the beginning (one provided by Craig O’Neill, the other by Lenkov).

Official Stills, Press Releases and other Promo
Tonight’s Episode 2×21 (Wind + Water) was written by MacGyver-creator Lee David Zlotoff (who also wrote Episode 1×19: Compass). While we got the Press Release a while ago, Offical Stills were only added yesterday. Almost all of them feature the main hero on his own. Today, they added 3 Sneak Peeks as well.

Episode 2×21: Wind + Water (via SpoilerTV)

On April 10, we got the Press Release for Episode 2×22 (UFO + Area 51). There’s not much info and only one Official Still so far, but hopefully, we get more photos soon.

The Season 2 Finale will air in two weeks, on May 4. As the Press Release confirmed on April 16, Episode 2×23 is titled “MacGyver + MacGyver”. In an interview back in January, Peter Lenkov had promised we’re going to meet MacGyver’s father by the end of the Season, so of course the cast list enforced the questions and the speculations about MacGyver Senior (more about that further down).

Season 2 Ratings
To freshen up your memory: Episode 2×18 had reached 6.43 million live viewers with a demo rating of 0.8. With the DVR ratings, it added another 1.83 million viewers within 7 days, making it a total audience of 8.26 million people in the +7 ratings.

Episode 2×19 (Benjamin Franklin + Grey Duffle) managed 6.68 million live viewers with a 0.8 demo-rating while Episode 2×20 (Skyscraper – Power) had an audience of 6.38 million live viewers (also with a demo of 0.8). As expected, there is a steady loss of audience numbers nearing Summer. But with the enforced promo for tonight’s episode and quite a few guest-stars with vocal fans on social media, it might be possible to get some higher numbers today.

Episode 2×20: Skyscraper – Power (via Seat42F)

So far, Season 2 had an average demo-rating of 0.86 with 6.96 million live-viewers per episode. Compared to Season 1, that’s down by about 21% and 7%, but as TV Series Finale states:

Although it ranks 21st out of the 25 scripted CBS TV shows in the demo, it rises to 11th place, in terms of average total viewership.

Not so bad if you look at it like that, no? As Deadline states it in their renewal article:

While MacGyver has not necessarily been a critical darling, it has done respectable business on Friday and has done well internationally for CBS based on its recognizable title and popcorn, procedural nature. It draws a respectable 8.5 million viewers and has been able to reenergize CBS’ Friday drama lineup when it joined it last season.

Cast, Crew and Character News: Is that a Plot Twist I see?
In tonight’s episode (2×21: Wind + Water), Diogo Morgado will guest-star as Mac’s friend Carlos. According to TV Insider, Kamar de los Reyes will act as a police officer trying to negotiate after Mac was taken hostage by robbers in a bank.

BtS photo of Episode 2×21: Wind + Water (via Ava Davila)

Because there were no news about the Season Finale when writing my last Update, I had combed through the Casting Calls again to see if I had maybe missed the casting for Stand-Ins or Photo Doubles for MacGyver senior. A Call for a Stand-In hinted at Joshua Childs having a part. He would have certainly fit age-wise, but as it turned out by April 10, he’s part of Episode 2×22 (UFO + Area 51) as a member of the NASCAR pit crew.

The Press Release for the Season Finale (2×23: MacGyver + MacGyver) confirmed Billy Baldwin (Elwood, Riley’s father), Lance Gross (Billy Colton, Riley’s boyfriend) and Reign Edwards (Leanna, Bozer’s girlfriend) being back. Curiosly, there’s no one listed as MacGyver Senior in the cast list although the title indicates he will be in the episode.

The Press Release for the Season 1 Finale had been a bit spoilery, so there’s the possibility that Mac Senior is “hidden” behind a character’s name. So far, the best guess is that Mac’s father is Oversight, played by Tate Donovan. He fits age- and looks-wise and judging by BtS pictures, he’s also in the scene with Mac and Jack riding horses.

BtS photo of Episode 2×23: MacGyver + MacGyver (via Tate Donovan)

Oversight has been mentioned several times since Season 1. It would be nice to finally have a face to the faceless person(s) representing this ominous board that so far never dealt with their agents on a personal level.

The Season Finale Press Release lists Kate Bond’s character Jill as a recurring role (the first one for this show), which means we will probably see a lot more of Jill in Season 3. On the other hand, we also know that there will be a change in the crew personnel and maybe also in the action scenes: As Stunt Coordinator Jeff Wolfe revealed on Twitter, he has not been invited back, despite winning the show its only Emmy Nomination (so far).

BtS photo of Episode 2×15: Murdoc + Handcuffs (via David Dastmalchian)

Also, one cast member might be missing: As TV Line stated on April 10, a source told them that there are no plans for Isabel Lucas as Samantha Cage to return. While I wasn’t sold on her character’s introduction, I felt she could have been useful as another field agent in a recurring capacity. Cage’s fate seemed a bit hurried and unplanned and not like an exciting plot twist. Her absence therefore feels unresolved to me; especially since there are still some unanswered questions: What did Murdoc have against her personally and why did he know she had changed her name? I really hope she will have at least another guest-gig on an episode next season to get some answers.

MacGyver in Germany
On April 15, German channel Sat.1 aired Episode 1×11 (Scissors) for the first time on German FreeTV since they had skipped 3 episodes when airing Season 1 on primetime last year. The German FreeTV premiere of Episode 1×16 (Hook) will air on April 29.

There’s still no news about the German-speaking premiere of Season 2 or the DVD release for Season 1. Guess we’ll have to wait for a bit longer.

MacGyver Reboot Update #52

While cast and crew wrapped up filming last month, we still have 5 more episodes to enjoy – including the Season 2 Finale on May 4.

BtS of Season 2 (via Christian Weld)

(Spoiler Alert: You will get spoilered about Season 2 by reading this post and its comments or by clicking on the links provided!)

What’s happening at the moment?
Cast and Crew wrapped up main production on March 24. The next day, the Atlanta crew and some cast members celebrated the Wrap Party at Club Rí Rá in Atlanta. Interestingly, of the main cast only Lucas Till and Justin Hires were present this year. Contrary to last year, there’s only a handful of pictures to find. Must have been a small and “secret” affair – or people were too tired to celebrate after filming for about 189 days within roughly 8 months.

Wrap Party Atlanta (via Alaina L. Lewis)

Alaina Lewis – soon-to-be-wife of Kevin Marshall Pinkney, Justin Hires’ Stand-In – posted a nice picture with Lucas; joking that he took it pretty well when she told him she will be off the market soon.

Only hours after the first pictures of the Wrap Party popped up on Social Media, Tristin Mays posted pictures and videos revealing her being back in LA. She visited the Paramount Studio lot as well – it’s not clear yet what for (ADR sessions or contract discussions?)

For the Moment, I’m assuming they will have another Wrap Party in LA – one that Executive Producer Peter Lenkov (who’s just wrapped filming for the Magnum PI Pilot in Hawaii) and some of the guest-stars will attend as well. Maybe a combined one, together with people working on Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum?

BtS picture of Episode 2×19: Benjamin Franklin + Grey Duffle (via Tristin Mays)

It’s a Wrap. Or not?
Although main production had wrapped on March 24, some of the Casting Calls for Stand-Ins had been dated for March 27 and 28. Additionally, some Crew members revealed on Instagram that they were still shooting inserts at the end of the week.

During the last few weeks, the cast posted several group pictures. Some have started working on other projects together, so it’s not clear if they will be back in Summer if the show gets renewed.

BtS picture of Season 2 (via Justin Hires)

While it’s a wrap on the filming process, there’s still post-production stuff to do – ADR, editing, composing music and more. It’s possible that since Peter Lenkov has to finish the Magnum Pilot in time before the Upfronts in May, there might be other people involved with editing the final episodes for the Reboot.

Official Stills, Press Releases and other Promo
On March 26, we got 9 additional Stills for Episode 2×19 (Benjamin Franklin + Grey Duffle). They all feature the same scene where it looks like Mac and Team get arrested once again. The preview features presumably the Opening Gambit with Mac, Jack and Riley doing their own version of the animated movie UP! In the Sneak Peek released on April 5, we got educated about “dirty money” – and a new section of “shippers” was born on social media (shipping MacGyver with Jill, one of the Phoenix Techs).

Episode 2×19: Benjamin Franklin + Grey Duffle (via SpoilerTV)

The title for Episode 2×20 is “Skyscraper – Power”. So far, this is the only title with a minus instead of a plus.

Additionally, we got some more scoop on Episode 2×21: It’s set in post-hurricane Puerto Rico where Mac and Team help Mac’s old friend Carlos re-building his home. Because that’s not adventure enough, there will be kidnappings. CBS released the synopsis yesterday, revealing that the kidnapping of Mac will happen in the bank Carlos works at. Fun Fact: This episode was written by MacGyver-creator Lee David Zlotoff (who also wrote Episode 1×19: Compass).

Episode 2×22 is titled “UFO + Area 51”. The still untitled Episode 2×23 as the Season Finale will air on May 4.

BtS picture of Episode 2×19: Benjamin Franklin + Grey Duffle (via Steven Serna)

There was some “other” promo as well: CBS Watch! Magazine published a mini-interview of Tristin Mays talking about the 7 things that make her smile. On March 5, Meredith Eaton was on the talk show “The Talk” and revealed in this little clip that tonight’s episode is a big one for her character. Apparently, Matty will go back to her old stomping ground (the CIA) and put herself in danger; meaning Meredith got to do some stunt work of her own.

There’s still no official news about MacGyver being renewed for a 3rd season. Last year, there was a “mass-announcement” for renewed CBS-shows at the end of March, so fans are getting impatient to know the fate of their favorite shows.

Season 2 Ratings
To freshen up your memory: Between the recent premiere breaks, Episode 2×16 (Hammock + Balcony) got a 0.8 demo-rating with an audience of 6.93 million live viewers. Episode 2×17 (Bear Trap + Mob Boss) had less viewers (6.61 million), but managed a higher demo-rating of 0.9.

Episode 2×18: Riley + Airplane (via SpoilerTV)

Episode 2×18 managed 6.43 million live viewers with a demo rating of 0.8 – which is a bit disappointing, but not too bad for a Holiday Weekend. Ratings tend to fall in Spring and Summer and the show ends its Season roughly three weeks later than last year (the Season 1 Finale aired on Good Friday, April 14), but fans have been speculating if the long breaks between episodes might have had an additional negative effect on the ratings.

So far, Season 2 had an average demo-rating of 0.86 with 7.01 million live-viewers per episode. The averages per episode are lower than for Season 1, but it still has better viewer numbers than the two current 2017-rookie-shows on CBS (e.g. SEAL Team or SWAT). Interestingly, both of these shows already got renewed, so it should be a no-brainer that MacGyver (and the whole Friday night line-up) will be renewed as well.

BtS picture of Episode 2×19: Benjamin Franklin + Grey Duffle (via Jordan Heir)

Cast and Character News and Speculations
In tonight’s Episode 2×19 (Benjamin Franklin + Grey Duffle), Amy Smart will return as Dawn. Edward Asner will guest-star in next week’s Episode 2×20, alongside Elisha Henig (Mr. Robot). Diogo Morgado will play Mac’s friend Carlos in Episode 2×21 (Wind + Water). According to TV Insider, Kamar de los Reyes will have a part in this episode as well; namely as a police officer trying to negotiate after Mac was taken hostage by robbers in a bank.

As always, Extras were needed as well during the last few weeks of filming. Some of the Casting Calls were looking for Stand-Ins for Billy Baldwin (Elwood, Riley’s father) and for Lance Gross (Billy Colton). Reign Edwards (Leanna, Bozer’s girlfriend) has been seen on set as well. So double date for Riley/Billy and Bozer/Leanna? A “heart-to-heart” between Elwood and Billy? Lots of possibilities for drama here.

BtS picture of Episode 2×23 (via Tristin Mays)

In an interview back in January, Peter Lenkov had promised we’re going to meet MacGyver’s father by the end of the Season. Because there are no news about the Season Finale yet, I combed through the Casting Calls again last week. A Casting Call for a Stand-In hinted at Joshua Childs having a part. Funny thing: Joshua had a smaller part in Hannah Montana (the movie that made Lucas Till famous). Age- and look-wise, he would be a pretty good fit for MacGyver senior, but of course he could just play a “regular” bad guy.

One of the last Casting Calls was for a Stand-In for Arye Gross. He has Jewish roots – his character could have a connection to the concentration camp prisoner in the picture on the file Mac received in the package from his father.

(Author’s Note: As it turns out by April 10, both Joshua Childs and Arye Gross are in the Press Release for Episode 2×22 (UFO + Area 51). Since Arye Gross’ Stand-In Casting Call was set for the last few days of filming, it’s possible they had done some additional inserts.)

MacGyver in German
The Reboot still seems to do well enough in all the German-speaking countries: Austrian channel ORF1, German channel Sat.1 and Swiss channel 3+ are all re-airing the first Season at the moment. Some of the episodes that are being re-aired in Austria actually get better audience numbers than when they premiered in Autumn 2017.

On April 15, German channel Sat.1 will air Episode 1×11 (Scissors). This will be the actual premiere of this episode on German FreeTV since they had skipped 3 episodes when airing Season 1 on primetime last year.

There’s still no news about the German-speaking premiere of Season 2. At least we know that Scalamedia is already in the process of dubbing the new episodes.

MacGyver Reboot Update #51

While there’s no new episode to premiere until March 30, cast and crew are filming the Final Episode of Season 2.

A short break on set of the Season 2 Finale (via Justin Hires)

(Spoiler Alert: You will get spoilered about Season 2 by reading this post and its comments or by clicking on the links provided!)

Mini-Hiatus on TV
For the second time, fans have to endure a mini-hiatus: Because of the Winter Olympics, there was no premiere for 4 weeks. Due to March Madness, there won’t be a new episode until March 30.

At least my short Updates Hiatus is over for now – though I didn’t really had the time to sort through all the Reboot news yet and frankly, I’m not sure I will manage to catch up anytime soon *sigh*.

Alas, I’ll try to put the most important news regarding production on this post so I can go on with “business as usual” in my next post.

What’s happening at the moment?
A few months ago, CBS had ordered an additional episode for Season 2. As it is, cast and crew have been working on Episode 2×23 this week – and therefore on the Season 2 Finale.

Filming the Season 2 Finale (via Steven Serna)

Crew Member Brandon Smith mentioned on Wednesday that there are only 3 days left. Indeed, the most recent Casting Calls for Extras are dated for tomorrow, so it looks like main production will wrap this weekend.

They have been filming at the Georgia International Horse Park this week. Executive Producer Peter Lenkov is busy filming the pilot episode of the Magnum Reboot in Hawaii, but he uploaded a blurry picture of Lucas Till riding a horse with the simple description “Marlboro Mac Man”. I’ve been wondering if we ever get to see Lucas on a Horse. Years ago, Miley Cyrus had stated in an interview for Hannah Montana that despite Lucas learning to ride specifically for the movie, he had done better than her who has been riding for years. Original MacGyver Richard Dean Anderson filmed several scenes with horses for the show and seemed always very comfortable around (or on) them, so this is a nice nod.

About that Season 1 DVD release
After waiting for so long, US-fans were finally able to get their hands onto the DVD of Season 1. They did get a nice carton-cover and a surprisingly generous price reduction – but sadly, there’s no DVD Extras at all and the menu looks different as well; using simply the Official Poster as background.

It’s understandable that many fans complained about it on social media because the Extras (specifically the Gag-Reel) were the main reason for fans to order the DVD in the first place. For now, the DVD adds no more value than buying it as a digital version. It might be a bargain for an occasional viewer that missed a few episodes and/or can’t get it via CBS All Access or iTunes – but for a fan, this is very disappointing and puzzling; considering the Extras are included in the versions available in other countries, not to mention that other countries (e.g. UK or Australia) got the DVD weeks or even months earlier than the US-fans.

David Dastmalchian and Michael Des Barres (via David Naylor)

Funny thing – or is it rather irony? – during the last few weeks, some cast and crew members did BtS interviews for the Season 2 DVD. For once, the Costume Departement with Sarah Downer did an interview about the Halloween Costumes in Episode 2×05. A few weeks earlier, both David Dastmalchian and Michael Des Barres had met up again on the Paramount Studio lot in LA for an interview with David Naylor.

Official Stills, Press Releases and other Promo
On March 2, Meredith Eaton took over the official social media accounts for some promo in advance of Episode 2×16 (Hammock + Balcony). She did a short interview with Sarah Downer at the Costume Departement and let her cast members answer some fan questions before she answered some questions as well. You can still find the interviews up on Instagram.

Tristin Mays answering Fan Questions (via CBS)

Justin Hires revealed that the interrogation scene between Bozer and Leanna had been the hardest scene to film so far. Tristin Mays stated that the Satellite Camera Balloon (Episode 1×09) is her favorite “MacHack” so far while George Eads said that Lucas Till is the funniest person on set. Lucas thinks Jill being the coolest character on set while Meredith wants Christopher Walken or Josh Duhamel guest-starring in an episode.

Three days after the Press Release, we got 13 Official Stills for Episode 2×18 (Riley + Airplane). On the same day, CBS granted us the Press release and a First Still for Episode 2×19 (Benjamin Franklin + Grey Duffle).

Episode 2×18: Riley + Airplane (via SpoilerTV)

According to TV Times, the title for Episode 2×20 is “Skyscraper – Power”. Unless it’s a typo, this is the first title with a minus instead of a plus so far. Additionally, we already have some scoop on Episode 2×21: It’s set in post-hurricane Puerto Rico, there’s one of Mac’s old friends named Carlos, and there will be at least two kidnappings. Episode 2×22 is titled “UFO + Area 51”. Now that sounds interesting!

On March 22, CBS announced that Episode 2×23 as the Season Finale will air on May 4.

There’s still no official press release yet, but there has been talk weeks ago about MacGyver already being renewed for a 3rd season. While I have no doubt that CBS will eventually renew the show, I’m not sure how trusty these “insiders” are.

Episode 2×16: Hammock + Balcony (via SpoilerTV)

Season 2 Ratings
To freshen up your memory: Before the Olympics Hiatus, Episode 2×14 (Mardi Gras Beads + Chair) had managed a 1.0 demo-rating while reaching an audience of 7.68 million live viewers. Episode 2×15 (Murdoc + Handcuffs) had an audience of 7.27 million live viewers with a rating of 0.9 in the important demo group of 14 to 49-year-olds.

Episode 2×16 (Hammock + Balcony) got a 0.8 demo-rating with an audience of 6.93 million live viewers. Episode 2×17 (Bear Trap + Mob Boss) had less viewers (6.61 million), but managed a higher demo-rating of 0.9.

So far, Season 2 had an average demo-rating of 0.86 with 7.04 million live-viewers per episode. Overall, ratings are falling and the averages are lower than the ratings for Season 1, but what I stated in my last Update still helds up: The Reboot didn’t loose as many viewers compared to last season as other current CBS-Shows (e.g. Scorpion) or as other 2016-rookie-shows (e.g. Lethal Weapon on FOX). It also still has better viewer numbers than the current 2017-rookie-shows on CBS (e.g. SEAL Team or SWAT).

Episode 2×17: Bear Trap + Mob Boss (via SpoilerTV)

Nevertheless, fans have been speculating if the long breaks between episodes might hurt the ratings even further. Ratings tend to fall nearing Summer anyway, and the show ends its Season five weeks later than last year (the Season 1 Finale aired on Good Friday, April 14).

Cast and Character News
While Samantha Cage has been listed on every Official Press Release delivered via SpoilerTV, Isabel Lucas has not been in another episode so far. Interestingly, Isabel was back in LA by Wednesday. It’s not clear yet if she will be heading over to Atlanta for the Season Finale or if she has been on set recently.

In next week’s Episode 2×18 (Riley + Airplane), we will encounter the Coltons again. Should be a fun Episode. Soap Opera star Joel Rush takes part in this Episode as well.

In Episode 2×19 (Benjamin Franklin + Grey Duffle), Amy Smart returns as Dawn. As Peter Lenkov revealed on February 8, Edward Asner has been filming scenes with George Eads. He might be part of Episode 2×20, alongside Elisha Henig (Mr. Robot).

Elisha Henig and George Eads in a BtS picture of Episode 2×20

Diogo Morgado will play Mac’s friend Carlos in Episode 2×21 (Wind + Water). He posted a picture of him holding lots and lots of money. Ransom money? Maybe a hint at him being involved with the bad guys?

As always, Extras were needed as well during the last four weeks. To name a few, Central Casting Georgia has been looking for Stand-Ins, Lab Techs, Hispanic Customers, Asian Pedestrians, a Man playing Guitar, for people with older-looking bikes, Hispanic Patrons, Baddies, a Tac Team, Hispanic Patrons, EMT and SWAT people and a female Agent in her 30s. They’ve also been looking for an Asian couple, a maid, a bartender and for people with a Toyota Camry.

Some of the Casting Calls were looking for Stand-Ins for Billy Baldwin and for Lance Gross. So it looks like Elwood and Billy Colton might be back for the Season Finale. Some talk between Riley’s father and her boyfriend? That sure will go down well *lol*.

Episode 2×18: Riley + Airplane (via SpoilerTV)

MacGyver in Europe
The German-speaking premiere of Episode 1×19 (Compass) managed to pull in a live audience of 98’000 people; Episode 1×20 (Hole Puncher) reached 110’000 live viewers.

Sadly, I don’t have the ratings for Episode 1×21 (Cigar Cutter), but on average, every Reboot Episode had about 83’000 live viewers in Austria.

In fact, the Reboot seems to do well in all the German-speaking countries. Austrian channel ORF1, German channel Sat.1 and Swiss channel 3+ are re-airing the first Season at the moment. There’s no German-speaking premiere date for Season 2 yet, but it might happen around June as with Season 1 last year.

George Eads and Lucas Till on set of Episode 2×23 (via Mark Emery Moore)

Some episodes that are being re-aired on ORF1 at the moment actually get better numbers than when they premiered in September 2017:

Episode 1×01 (The Rising): 88’000 live viewers
Episode 1×02 (Metal Saw): 102’000 live viewers (premiere: 81’ooo)
Episode 1×03 (Awl): 86’000 live viewers (premiere: 51’ooo)

I’m not sure if the high numbers have to do with the fact the premiere happened when it was still pretty warm outside or if it has to do with the programme that precedes the episodes this time around; namely winter sports events like skiing that usually garner a lot of attention in Austria.

BtS picture of Episode 2×21: Wind + Water (via Justin Hires)

France grants the Reboot 3 hours every week; airing two episodes of Season 2 followed by an episode of Season 1 on Wednesdays. Italy just started re-airing Season 1 this week.

Looking Back at Season 2 (III) – The Official Stills (Part 1)

I’ve always been a bit puzzled about the release of the Official Stills. Maybe that’s just how it works with TV shows in general, but: Sometimes we get 20 Official Stills for an episode – another time only 3. Or worse – none. Sometimes we would get several, but all of them looking very similar.

I’m still not sure who actually chooses them – according to Set Photographer Guy D’Alema, it’s not the photographer himself. So either the director of photography, the director of the episode or the producers? Or someone higher up at CBS who’s responsible for TV show promo in general? No clue.

Episode 2×03: Roulette Wheel + Wire (via SpoilerTV)

In Season 1, there weren’t many in the bunch that actually sparked my interest, but it was fun to look over them months after the episodes had aired.

As with Season 1, I’m looking back at the Official Stills for each Episode of Season 2; picking my favorites and writing down some of my thoughts. (Because I just can’t keep quiet, as you all know by now.)

One thing I have noticed: While for Season 1, there had sometimes been 2 or even 3 Still Photographers, it’s usually only one person now (mostly Guy D’Alema who works on a bunch of other TV shows as well at the moment).

Episode 2×01: DIY or DIE (Still Photographer: Guy D’Alema)
We got 5 Official Stills via SpoilerTV. Three of them feature MacGyver, one Jack all on his own and one has Mac and Jack in trouble.

Episode 2×01: DIY or DIE (via Seat42F)

MY FAVORITE: Probably the one with Mac and Jack in trouble. We’ve seen BtS pictures of the scene before and I was curious what this was all about.

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: We already knew about Isabel Lucas being a new regular cast member, but there was no Official Still of her (or the other cast members). Funny thing though that the person grabbing Jack’s leg IS actually Isabel as Samantha Cage.

Episode 2xo2: Muscle Car + Paper Clips (Guy D’Alema)
For the second episode of Season 2, we got 4 Stills via SpoilerTV. Interestingly, they are all about the same scene with Tristin Mays as Riley; but one Still features a guy that isn’t all that important in the end.

Episode 2×02: Muscle Car + Paper Clips (via SpoilerTV)

MY FAVORITE: Not much to choose from, huh? I guess the one with Riley on the computer *heh*.

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: As mentioned above, all of  the Stills advertize the same scene. The episode is clearly centered around Riley, but I always think it’s weird when the protagonist that lends the show its name isn’t seen anywhere. Also, given the episode title, I had actually expected that the Muscle Car (a Mustang in this case) being featured.

Episode 2xo3: Roulette Wheel + Wire (Quantrell Colbert)
The third episode delivered 10 Official Stills via SpoilerTV. Besides Matty, everyone of Team Phoenix is in more than one of the pictures, which is nice.

Episode 2×03: Roulette Wheel +Wire (via SpoilerTV)

MY FAVORITE: Mac always talks about Bozer being his best friend – but since he joined Team Phoenix, Lucas Till and Justin Hires didn’t have many scenes together. Although this scene features the entire field team, it’s nice to have two Stills with just the two of them – I think that might actually be the first time since the Pilot Episode.

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: Nothing, really. The cast is very pretty to look at; the women all dolled up and the men all sharp dressed. In a Still that was added later on, there’s even a SAK featured. Isn’t that great? It’s actually my runner-up choice, so it needed to be shown as well (right at the beginning of this blog post).

Episode 2xo4: X-Ray + Penny (Guy D’Alema)
We got only 3 Stills via SpoilerTV. All of them feature the scene with Mac and Murdoc.

Episode 2×04: X-Ray + Penny (via SpoilerTV)

MY FAVORITE: The one with Mac and Murdoc, of course.

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: There’s the promise of Mac!Whump; so for me, not disappointing at all. There was even a BtS video after Entertainment Tonight had visited the set when this episode was being filmed.

Episode 2xo5: Skull + Electromagnet (Guy D’Alema)
The Halloween Episode brought 9 Official Stills via SpoilerTV plus additional versions of the group photo with everyone besides Matty dressed up in their Halloween costume.

Episode 2×05: Skull + Electromagnet (Official Still via Seat42F)

MY FAVORITE: It’s either “Jungle” or “Costumes”, so probably the group photo with everyone trying to look scary.

NOW THAT’S DISAPPOINTING: For the costumes being featured in so many pictures, it was a bit disappointing we didn’t get to see them properly in the episode itself. But when it comes to the Official Stills, everything’s fine. Maybe a Still with the villain would have been a nice addition.

(More coming soon.)

MacGyver Reboot Update #50

While there’s no new episode to premiere until March, cast and crew continue working on the last few episodes of Season 2.

Episode 2×16: Hammock + Balcony (via SpoilerTV)

(Spoiler Alert: You will get spoilered about Season 2 by reading this post and its comments or by clicking on the links provided!)

Mini-Hiatus on TV
It feels like production is on a mini-hiatus right now: Because of the Winter Olympics, there’s no premiere for 4 weeks. Instead of new episodes for their TV shows, CBS airs Celebrity Big Brother and reruns for the rest of February. Therefore, Episode 2×16 (Hammock + Balcony) will have its premiere on March 2nd.

I assumed this means that the cast might get to enjoy free weekends again while editors and post-production have more time to do their final touches – but that’s not what’s happening. In fact, cast and cew are still hard at work, spending Friday nights and Saturdays on set as well.

There is a small consolation prize for fans, though: SpoilerTV confirmed recently that CBS ordered an additional episode, so Season 2 will have a total of 23 episodes. And it’s only 10 days until US-fans can get their hands on the DVD of Season 1.

BtS picture of Season 2 (via Steven Serna)

Airplanes, Hotels and the Robocop connection
Lucas Till has more or less disappeared when it comes to his social media accounts. The most recent of Lucas’ posts on Instagram happened two weeks ago – on the night the last episode aired. George has made 5 posts in total since then. Today, he thanked Peter Weller for directing Episode 2×20. Besides playing Robocop, Peter Weller has directed several episodes of TV-Shows – including Justin Hires in Rush Hour and several episodes of Hawaii Five-0.

While Tristin Mays and Justin Hires got to enjoy an early wrap on February 6, Justin is the only one still posting MacGyver-related stuff several times a week.

Executive Producer Peter Lenkov is busy plotting the budget for the pilot episode of the Magnum Reboot. He rarely posts any editing videos anymore – it’s not clear if he just doesn’t have the time for posts or if someone else is doing most the editing now.

BtS picture of Episode 2×15: Murdoc + Handcuffs (via David Dastmalchian)

For a few days, production had been filming at Pullman Rail Yard again before they set up at Dekalb Airport. Mark Emery Moore uploaded a video he labelled as a “typical Steadicam shot”. It’s Riley, Mac and Jack (complaining a lot) on a mission. Apparently, the gunfire scenes had startled the people living in the area. Looks like something had gone wrong with noticing the residents beforehand.

They built a lot of dolly tracks last week for scenes filmed outside and in the woods. Moore uploaded another “walk and talk” video; showing the skills of the camera and boom operator guys walking backwards at impressive speed without loosing focus. On Tuesday, they moved to another already well-known location: The Marriott Marquis Hotel.

Today, they’re filming in a middle of a flight path and the crew is not happy. As Evan Marsh stated in an Instagram Live Story, they have a plane overhead every 4 minutes. Fun! Boom Operator Robert Maxfield posted a video (with sound, of course) to show us what they have to deal with.

Official Stills, Press Releases and other Promo
A Rerun of the Season 2 Premiere Episode (2×01: DIY or DIE) is scheduled for tomorrow Saturday, February 17.

On February 5, we got the first scoop for Episode 2×16 (Hammock + Balcony). A few days later, SpoilerTV delivered the Press Release while Matt Carter included a first Official Still. A week later, SpoilerTV added 11 more Stills.

On February 14, Broadway World released the first scoop on Episode 2×17 (Bear Trap + Mob Boss), with Matt Carter again revealing the first Official Still. While the title for Episode 2×20 is still unknown, we already have some scoop on Episode 2×21: It’s set in post-hurricane Puerto Rico, there’s one of Mac’s old friends named Carlos, and there will be at least two kidnappings.

Episode 2×16: Hammock + Balcony (via Matt Carter)

In a New/Old interview with Channel Guide Mag, Lucas Till talked about an unpleasant moment from the season 2 opener and revealed that last Summer, Spanish Airport Security had asked for selfies.

There’s no official press release yet, but there’s talk about MacGyver already being renewed for a 3rd season. While I have no doubt that CBS will eventually renew the show, I’m not sure how trusty these “insiders” are. If it’s true, they might officially announce it when the show comes back on March 2nd to remind non-regular viewers that it’s worth to tune in again since the show will go on for another year?

Season 2 and Rerun Ratings
Episode 2×14 (Mardi Gras Beads + Chair) had managed a 1.0 demo-rating while reaching an audience of 7.68 million live viewers. Episode 2×15 (Murdoc + Handcuffs) had an audience of 7.27 million live viewers with a rating of 0.9 in the important demo group of 14 to 49-year-olds.

BtS picture of Episode 2×15: Murdoc + Handcuffs (via Michael Des Barres)

During the premiere, both Michael Des Barres and David Dastmalchian had joined the writer’s team in their office; live-tweeting while the episode aired. All the writers including Peter Lenkov joined in posting pictures of themselves in the writer’s room and new BtS pictures made while filming the episode. A few hours before, Tech Consultant and Physics teacher Rhett Allain had done an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit.

So far, Season 2 had an average demo-rating of 0.87 with 7.08 million live-viewers per episode. This is less than Season 1 made, but the Reboot didn’t loose as many viewers compared to last season as other current CBS-Shows (e.g. Scorpion) or 2016-rookie-shows (Lethal Weapon on FOX). It has also better ratings than the 2017-rookie-shows (e.g. SEAL Team or SWAT) on CBS.

BtS picture of Episode 2×15: Murdoc + Handcuffs (via David Dastmalchian)

The Rerun of Episode 1×17 (Ruler) aired on a Saturday. Reruns on Saturdays generally get lower ratings than Reruns on Fridays, yet despite the time-slot-competition of the Olympics, the episode managed a live-audience of 2.52 million people.

Cast and Character News
On March 2nd, Reign Edwards returns as Bozer’s love interest Leanna (in Episode 2×16). Reign hasn’t been listed for more episodes yet and just snagged a movie-role for CBS for a movie set to release in October, so it’s not sure if we’ll see her anytime soon.

While Samantha Cage is still listed on the Official Press Releases delivered via SpoilerTV, Isabel Lucas has not left Australia yet; taking part as a juror for an Australian Film Festival last week. There’s only 3 episodes left to film for this Season, so it’s possible that Cage won’t come back for the Season Finale despite some fans asking about her every time an episode airs.

In Episode 2×18 (Riley + Airplane), we will meet up with the Coltons again. Soap Opera star Joel Rush will be probably take part in this Episode as well. American football running back Latavius Murray has been on set, too – but it’s not clear yet if he was just visiting or not. As Peter Lenkov revealed on February 8, Edward Asner has been filming at the airport location with George Eads. Asner has 375 acting credits on IMDb, which is pretty stunning. Elisha Henig (Mr. Robot) should have a part in Episode 2×20 or 2×21. He posed for a picture with George Eads and showed some impressive guitar skills.

As always, Extras were needed as well. Central Casting Georgia has been looking for Armed Men with Caucasian or Russian looks, for Asian Business People, Agents, Sunday Cars, a Gunman and for Asian Patrons with Cars. They’ve also been looking for Stand-Ins, a Dead Man, and Bad Guys.

MacGyver in Austria
The German-speaking premiere of Episode 1×16 (Hook) managed to pull in a live audience of 123’000 people; setting the audience-record so far. The following episodes did also pretty well, reaching more viewers every week.

Episode 1×17 (Ruler): 81’000 live viewers
Episode 1×18 (Flashlight): 90’000 live viewers
Episode 1×19 (Compass): 98’000 live viewers

These numbers might seem small, but Austria isn’t a big country. In fact, Austrian channel ORF1 will re-air the first Season; beginning the week after the Austrian Premiere of the Season 1 Finale. With Switzerland, a third German-speaking country started airing Season 1 today. Starting March 4, German channel Sat.1 will repeat Season 1 on Saturdays. Looks like despite the negative reviews of the Pilot Episode, the Reboot has found a decent audience in German-speaking countries.

MacGyver Reboot Update #49

Filming for Season 2 continues, often even on the weekends. Tonight, Michael Des Barres will guest-star in Episode 2×15!

BtS of Michael Des Barres in Episode 2×15: Murdoc + Handcuffs (via David Dastmalchian)

(Spoiler Alert: You will get spoilered about Season 2 by reading this post and its comments or by clicking on the links provided!)

Cowboys, Mexico and more Wedding Dresses
Since they continued filming in January after Christmas Hiatus, there aren’t that many new BtS pictures provided by the main cast anymore. Both Lucas Till and George Eads go for weeks without posting anything at all, while Justin continues uploading BtS pictures of (the still untitled) Episode 2×16.

Of course, this led to speculations by fans what’s going on. On the one hand, they often work on the weekends as well – they’re just too busy to post. On the other hand, they’re working on Episodes 2×19 and 2×20 at the moment which means they’ll soon start gearing up for the Season Finale. If they have actually planned on revealing Mac’s father (like Lenkov promised in an early Season 2 interview), they might keep up the secrecy for a while longer.

BtS picture of Jack Dalton in Season 2 (via George Eads)

One “secret” has already been hinted at by Executive Producer Peter Lenkov: We will see George Eads in chaps. According to his Instagram Live Story, this will be part of a scene with Matty and Jack – and as crew member Kate Roberson revealed, that’s probably the story how Matty got to see Jack’s butt for the first time (as mentioned in Episode 2×03).

Besides Jack in chaps, we will definitely see other interesting clothes for undercover missions this Season. Justin Hires posted another picture of Riley in a wedding dress; posing with her “husband” Bozer. Even if the wedding won’t be real, it looks like they had at least giant lobster for their “work-slash-honeymoon” meal. We’ve seen many BtS pictures of Episode 2×16 so far, but also of the Coltons-Episode (2×18: Riley + Airplane). Interestingly, there aren’t many infos on Episode 2×17 – it doesn’t even haven an entry on IMDb yet.

For a few days, they filmed scenes in “Mexico”. It’s not clear yet if this is tied to the Cowboy Jack scene, but there had been horses and mules on set as well. As Stunt Coordinator Jeff Wolfe promised, there will be some interesting stunts soon.

Two days ago, they filmed what looked like a sequence of the animated movie “Up”. Several crew members shared pictures and videos of the colorful balloons that seem to be tied to a trampoline. For once, the sun was shining. Today, they’re filming at Pullman Rail Yard again – and as Tristin Mays reveals in her Instagram Live Story, it’s very cold. Last week, we’ve seen how the crew deals with ice and sleet on the streets for outside filming.

Yesterday, Lucas posted some Instagram Live Stories, showing lots of money hiding behind the set walls. This week, Justin Hires also posted Live Stories that featured duffle bags filled with money – very fitting for the title of Episode 2×19 (Benjamin Franklin + Grey Duffle).

BtS video screenshots of Episode 2×19: Benjamin Franklin + Grey Duffle (via Lucas Till)

Cast and Crew posted some older pictures as well; e.g. Boom Operator Robert Maxfield of Riley in her Halloween costume or of Isabel Lucas in the water tank while filming the Halloween Episode (2×05: Skull + Electromagnet).

Official Stills, Press Releases and Sneak Peeks
On January 12, CBS officially announced via TV Insider that Michael Des Barres will guest-star in tonight’s Episode 2×15 (Murdoc + Handcuffs). Four days later, we got the official Press Release, revealing that MDB will actually play Nicholas Helman, Murdoc’s mentor. On January 25, they released a handful of Official Stills.

There were no Official Sneak Peeks for Episode 2×14 (Mardi Gras Beads + Chair) and the Previews kept being very short for the last few episodes. The Preview for 2×15 is also only 10 seconds long, but there is an additional “long” version of a Preview Trailer. Today, we got 3 Sneak Peeks in total, but interestingly none with Michael Des Barres.

Episode 2×15: Murdoc + Handcuffs (via Seat42F)

MDB has been hyping up his fans for tonight’s episode for days, now. Yesterday, he did some promo on Yahoo! Entertainment: During a very interesting, 40-minutes-long interview, he talked about the Reboot cast and the filming experience, about his craziest scene for the Original Show and about many other things.

A Rerun of Episode 1×17 (Ruler) is scheduled to air on Saturday, February 10. It has been re-scheduled twice so far, so we’ll see if it works out this time. A Rerun of the Season 2 Premiere Episode (2×01: DIY or DIE) is scheduled for the following week, so Saturday, February 17.

Reruns might actually be the only thing fans get to watch after tonight: For the rest of the February Fridays at 8pm, there’s Celebrity Big Brother scheduled; meaning Episode 2×16 won’t air until March 2nd. This is apparently standard procedure during the Olympics: There won’t be any new episodes for most current TV shows so it doesn’t hurt the ratings. Sure, one could argue that non-regular viewers might lose interest on the show or forget to tune in when it comes back. On the other hand, this also means that the cast might get to enjoy one or two free weekends again while editors and post-production have more time to do their final touches.

BtS picture of Episode 2×16 (via Justin Hires)

There is a small consolation prize for fans, though: Season 2 will definitely get an additional episode, so a total of 23 episodes. The information has been up on the CBSSI show page for several weeks, but it wasn’t until Wednesday we got confirmation via SpoilerTV.

Apparently, SpoilerTV also got some scoop on Episode 2×21: It’s set in post-hurricane Puerto Rico, there’s one of Mac’s old friends named Carlos, and there will be at least two kidnappings.

Season 2 Ratings
Episode 2×13 (CO2 Sensor + Tree Branch) had reached a new record for Season 2: 8.14 million live viewers with a rating of 1.0 in demo. The Reboot hadn’t reached more than 8 million live viewers since Episode 1×15, so I was curious about the numbers for the next episode.

Episode 2×14 (Mardi Gras Beads + Chair) didn’t quite match 2×13 – but it kept the 1.0 demo-rating while reaching an audience of 7.68 million live viewers.

Cast and Character News
Besides Michael Des Barres, tonight’s guest-stars for Episode 2×15 (Murdoc + Handcuffs) are Michael Michele as Riley’s mother Diane, Murdoc’s son Cassian (played by Brady Bond) and Anthony Starke (the teacher “hired” by Murdoc in Episode 2×04).

Reign Edwards will return as Bozer’s love interest Leanna (in Episode 2×16), helping with an undercover mission by posing as MacGyver’s wife.

In Episode 2×18 – called “Riley + Airplane” – we will meet up with the Coltons again. It’s a nice surprise that they managed to get all actors from the last Colton-Episode (1×16: Hook) back on set. All of the actors – Jermaine Rivers (Frank Colton), Lance Gross (Billy Colton), Javicia Leslie (Jesse Colton) and Sheryl Lee Ralph (Mama Colton) –  uploaded several pictures and videos on social media for the fans to enjoy.

Soap Opera star Joel Rush has been filming on January 19 and will be probably part of the Coltons-Episode. American football running back Latavius Murray has been on set as well – but it’s not clear yet if he was just visiting or actually working.

Extras are important, too – and the Casting Calls often give insights on the upcoming locations the episodes will be set in. Central Casting Georgia has been looking for Mexico Kids and Mexico Patrons, for a family of a mother and two children who portray Caucasian in family photos, Stand-Ins, Female Techs, good-looking agents or CIA Office Workers. They’ve also been looking for more Techs, Bad Guys who are comfortable wearing a Hazmat Mask, a male Drug Store ClerkNurses, Asian Business People, Police and Peru Pedestrians.

MacGyver in Austria
Austrian channel ORF1 finally managed to air the German-speaking premiere of Episode 1×16 (Hook). It managed to pull in a live audience of 123’000 people; setting the audience-record so far. Episode 1×17 (Ruler) garnered 81’000 viewers, which is actually not that bad, either.

MacGyver Reboot Update #48

Unless production is halted due to heavy snowfall every now and then, filming continues as planned on Season 2. Also, we finally got the confirmation about Michael Des Barres guest-starring in Episode 2×15!

(Spoiler Alert: You will get spoilered about Season 2 by reading this post and its comments or by clicking on the links provided!)

Russia, Bikes and Wedding Dresses
After Christmas Hiatus, filming was officially resumed on January 5, presumably for Episode 2×17. Lucas Till’s Stand-In Matthew Albright had revealed how many layers he’s wearing at the moment because of the cold. They’ve been filming in “Russia” until last week. The Location was an old warehouse with actors milling around in white hazmat suits à la “Back to the Future”. Tristin Mays donned one of these suits as well; stealing a truck with “plutonium”.

BtS of Season 2 (via Tristin Mays)

Tristin recently revealed on social media that she’s been taking motorcycle lessons. On January 7, she posted a short video of her riding a motorcycle. She didn’t think it looked as cool as she wanted it to be, but Stunt Coordinator Jeff Wolfe and other crew members complimented her; stating that she “kicked ass” (despite not wearing a helmet).

A day later, Tristin posted a BtS video of her and Reign Edwards dancing around in Wedding Dresses; presumably for Episode 2×16. Executive Producer Peter Lenkov topped that post on Tuesday, January 16: In the Instagram Story he uploaded while editing, Mac and Leanna are posing for wedding pictures; gazing lovingly into each others eyes. Yesterday, Justin Hires posted a photo of Bozer and Riley posing for their own set of wedding pictures.

BtS video screenshots of Episode 2×16 (via Peter Lenkov)

A few days ago, production continued at the Delta Flight Museum – with a “Mini-Hiatus” on Wednesday due to heavy snowfall.

In general, cast and crew battled the cold all week. Maybe that’s what led to the “atomic sneeze“? Although it’s cold, the cast was excited that the show is back on production and on air. It’s not quite clear if they’re just so busy or if they’re trying to keep the lid on recent sets, but there aren’t that many BtS pictures since they started filming again. They do provide older BtS pictures, though – especially on Fridays. Meredith Eaton posted some BtS pictures from Episode 2×13: One is her, Tristin and Lucas posing with the little monkey from the Opening Gambit; another one is her with Ashley Tisdale.

It seems like 2×16 is one of Justin’s favorites, since all recent pictures he has been posting were made while filming this episode. One BtS picture features Mac, Leanna, Bozer and Riley in their “honeymoon/spy-op-suite“. Another shows Bozer and Riley taking up Yoga Lessons. Yesterday, he uploaded a picture of Mac and Bozer flashing their wedding rings.

Official Stills, Press Releases and Sneak Peeks
After 4 Sneak Peeks for Episode 2×12 (Mac + Jack), we only got a single one for Episode 2×13 – but cast and crew provided lots of new BtS pictures (e.g. of Meredith Eaton with Ashley Tisdale) while Lenkov teased that Mac “loses it tonight”.

A Rerun of Episode 1×17 (Ruler) had been scheduled for December 29 last year. CBS then re-scheduled the rerun for Friday, January 26. A look at the TV programme reveals that the rerun has been dropped off the schedule again; airing a Bruno Mars concert instead. At the moment, the episode is scheduled to air on Saturday, February 10.

On January 17, we got additional Stills for Episode 2×14 (Mardi Gras Beads + Chair). Peter Lenkov also provided some sneak peeks via Instagram Live Stories – one of the Opening Gambit (in what looks like a “flying toilet box”) and some more with scenes between Jack and his “wife” (played by Amy Smart). Sadly, there were no Official Sneak Peeks.

Michael Des Barres in Episode 2×15
We had already put together enough pieces to know about it, but it wasn’t until January 12 that CBS officially announced via TV Insider that Michael Des Barres will guest-star in Episode 2×15 (Murdoc + Handcuffs). Besides giving us a first Still, they also revealed that MDB will play a mentor of rebooted Murdoc (David Dastmalchian) and that apparently, Murdoc doesn’t like that his mentor decides to retire and plans on killing him.

Episode 2×15: Murdoc + Handcuffs (via TV Insider)

Both Michael (MDB) and David posted some great BtS pictures on social media, stating that it had been immensely fun and educating to film this episode.

On January 16, we got the official Press Release, revealing that MDB will actually play a character named Nicholas Helman. In case the name sounds familiar: it’s another nod the the Original Show. Nicholas Helman was the Chairman of the Board for the Homicide International Trust (HIT), a criminal group who contracted assassins all over the world. Helman himself was a first rate assassin who had trained OG Murdoc in the “art” of killing.

Interestingly, the scoop by TV Insider must have been wrong, because the Press Release states that Helman is the one trying to get rid of Murdoc, not the other way around.

Season 2 Ratings
Episode 2×12 (Mac + Jack) had managed 7.83 million live viewers with a rating of 0.9 in the important demo group (14-49 years old). That’s almost a million live viewers more than for Episode 2×11.

Episode 2×13 (CO2 Sensor + Tree Branch) reached a new record for Season 2: 8.14 million live viewers with a rating of 1.0 in demo. The Reboot hasn’t reached more than 8 million live viewers since Episode 1×15, so I’m already curious what will happen ratings-wise for the next few episodes.

Interestingly, #Blindspot had trended on Twitter above #MacGyver. It had also generated more traffic on voting sites asking what people will be watching tonight. Apparently, higher social media traffic doesn’t automatically generate higher audience numbers.

BtS of Episode 2×13: CO2 Sensor + Tree Branch (via Meredith Eaton)

It might be a while until we hear about a potential Season 3 renewal. Fact is, CBS wins every week with their Friday Evening Line-Up. Unless someone of the main cast drops out, it seems like a no-brainer that all Friday shows (MacGyver, Hawaii Five-0, Blue Bloods) will be renewed for another Season. Interesting fact: The Season-2-Order had initially been for 22 episodes. But I recently noticed that the CBS Studios International website lists Season 2 with 23 episodes now. Other shows like Hawaii Five-O, NCIS and NCIS: New Orleans already got an extended order for 24 episodes last November. Looking at recent ratings, it makes sense that CBS wants to bank on the Reboot’s ratings success as well. It’s just a bit strange that there was no official news about it so far.

Cast and Character News
Tonight’s guest-stars for Episode 2×14 (Mardi Gras Beads + Chair) are Garrett Morris as the proprietor of “Willy’s House of Voodoo” and Amy Smart as Jack’s “wife”.

BtS of Episode 2×18: Riley + Airplane  (via Jermaine Rivers)

Riley’s mother Diane (played by Michael Michele), Murdoc’s son Cassian (Brady Bond) and Anthony Starke (the teacher “hired” by Murdoc in Episode 2×04) will be back in Episode 2×15 (Murdoc + Handcuffs). Reign Edwards returns as Bozer’s love interest Leanna (presumably in Episode 2×16), helping with an undercover mission by posing as MacGyver’s wife.

Peter Lenkov had revealed in an “inside scoop” via TV Line on January 2nd that Riley will take up a relationship with one of the Colton brothers. Jermaine Rivers (Frank Colton) had hinted that he might be the lucky one, but deleted his comment afterwards. Both of the Colton Brothers are attached to other shows filming in Atlanta, but since Jermaine’s The Gifted (FOX) has already wrapped its first Season while Lance Gross (Billy Colton) is still filming for Star, there were speculations that Billy might be absent this time.

Javicia Leslie (Jesse Colton), Sheryl Lee Ralph (Mama Colton) and Jermaine started filming this week; already uploading some BtS pictures and videos. As Jermaine Rivers revealed, Episode 2×18 will be called “Riley + Airplane”. A few days later, Lance Gross joined the crew; therefore completing the Colton Family. Sadly, there were no sightings of a rebooted version of Frog Dog.

BtS video screenshot of Episode 2×18: Riley + Airplane (via Sheryl Lee Ralph)

Extras are important, too.  Central Casting Georgia has been looking for Guys in Hazmat Masks, Skater Boys, more Bad Guys, a Photo Double for Michael Des Barres and High End Vehicles. For this week, they’ve been looking for airplane passengers and a Flight Attendant, for Weightlifters, Stand-Ins, for people appearing as homeless and for Extras filming a mansion scene: Caterers, Waiters, Valets, a Big Guard, Security and Mansion Guests.

MacGyver in France
Two weeks ago, Episodes 1 to 3 premiered on French channel M6. The Pilot Episode had reached 4.11 Million live viewers and won second place on French TV that Friday.

Episodes 4, 5 and 6 premiered last week. As with the premiere of the Pilot Episode, new French articles with short interviews have been posted online, but they’ve all been done back in Monte Carlo last summer. While we’ve heard the soundbites before, Téléstar posted a new picture of George Eads that had been done in the official CBS portraits series.

George Eads as Jack Dalton (via TéléStar)

On the day of the premiere, the Hashtag #MacGyver had started trending even before the Pilot Episode had begun and kept trending for almost 10 hours in France. It also trended for episodes 4 to 6; although not for as many hours.

MacGyver in Austria
Episode 1×15 (Magnifying Glass) had managed to pull in 73’000 viewers. Because the episodes weren’t aired regularly anymore due to the interfering Winter Sports Events, it’s gotten a bit more difficult for viewers to catch the show. After several reschedulings, ORF1 finally managed to air the German-speaking premiere of Episode 1×16 (Hook).

Apparently, the preceding Sports Event helped with the ratings, because 2×16 brought in a whopping 123’000; setting the audience-record so far.
